I’ve lived in New York my whole life, and once the temperature dips below a certain degree, finding the warmest winter coats for women becomes a priority. In many ways, quality outerwear is necessary to do my job; I’m a stylist and a fashion writer who is often running to photo shoots and events. Shivering in a thin bomber jacket while schlepping it across town? That’s my version of a nightmare. I’d much rather invest in the best long puffer coat, which will shield my whole body from the elements and keep me feeling cozy.

But who makes the best long puffer coats for women? Well, there are actually multiple options. I’ve written about, tested, and have bought a variety of long puffer coats, from surprisingly warm designs that cost less than $100 to statement-making styles that are more of an investment. I’m listing my favorites, ahead.
What to Look For in a Long Puffer Coat
The best long puffer coats are really a matter of opinion, but there are some things to consider before handing over your credit card. Do you want your coat to have a hood, which will come in handy on windy, snowy days? Would you like a belt to accentuate your waist and define your shape? Can you get away with something lighter or do you want a super warm long puffer coat, which you’ll probably only break out once it’s truly freezing outside? My recommendation is to make a list of qualities that are important to you, then shop the pick that meets all or most of them.
The Best Brand of Long Puffer Coats
Again, the best brand of long puffer coats is up to you, depending on the qualities that you’re looking for. If you want a solid option that’s beloved by many, a Canada Goose puffer coat will get you through a rough winter, as will a North Face pick or one from Lands’ End. I’m also always pleasantly surprised by coats from Orolay (AKA the Amazon coat brand) and even Target’s long puffer coats have kept my teeth from chattering.
